In Memory of 'Penny Mickey Edwards' (04.11.60 ~ 22.11.10)

So my 4th Major, my 25th Marathon and my 13th Marathon of the year is almost here...... my Feelings - excited and looking forward to Sundays 'Bank of America Chicago Marathon', it's going to be a blast!. This is one of those runs I've always dream't of doing, way back in the days when my Friend 'Penny Mickey Edwards' was around. I'd promised to go out to see her should I ever go out to run the Chicago Marathon,  sadly with her passing, that is something I will never be able to do. This run is very close to my heart, Penny will always be remembered every time the thought of 'Chicago' comes to mind. When I arrive, I guess I'll be a little sad knowing that she won't be there to greet me. But I do know that wherever she is, she is there in spirit, cheering me on. I'll think of her as I run through that finishing line.

This Sunday, it will mainly be about Penny. Penny suffered tremendously but she battled through Cancer with courage and was a real winner in every sense of the word. She laughed, she smiled and was always positive. She had such a love for life and was always ready to offer you some friendly advice and support. When I told her back in May 2010 how a friends' husband of mine was going through Cancer, these were her very exact words; 'and prayers to your friends' husband - Lots of people beat cancer, he will probably be one of them'.

My aim is to enjoy Chicago. No 'Personal Best' in mind, as I have various Marathons lined up all throughout October. I'm just going out there to soak up the atmosphere, meet like minded people and to light a candle for dear Penny.

If you would like to make a donation towards 'MacMillan Cancer Support', my dedicated charity group for Chicago Marathon 2012, please feel free to use the below link. It's very easy and safe.
